Jack Trigger is a professional offshore sailor, competing through 2018 in the Class 40 championship culminating with the iconic ‘Route du Rhum’ single handed transatlantic race from St. Malo to Guadeloupe in November of 2018.
Jack is en route to becoming the next British skipper to compete in the Vendee Globe, and challenge for the title in the gruelling non stop, solo and unassisted round the world race. The Vendee Globe is an incredible challenge of mental and physical stamina, and is widely accepted as one of the toughest sporting challenges left on Earth.
Jack is a young sailor with an impressive resume, including world records and notable race wins. Spending time racing some of the fastest offshore sailing machines on the planet, which include extreme carbon fibre multihulls and hydro-foiling ‘round the world’ beasts, in disciplines which are effectively ‘formula 1 on water’.
To add to the challenge, in 2015 Jack was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Just 3 months later he took the season win in the RORC championship circuit. ‘Diabetes and offshore racing simply don’t work well together. Being flung around the inside of a rocket ship carbon fibre tub, approaching 40 knots, in the dark, whilst trying to inject yourself with life critical insulin, is challenging. But it forces you to look after yourself, you become more self aware and ultimately you can use it to make you a better athlete - using key areas like nutrition to your advantage in the punishing environment that solo offshore racing creates’
